Sanctuary Cast Announced!

I couldn’t be more overjoyed to announce this amazing cast for the rehearsed reading of Sanctuary. I never imagined a group of such high-caliber actors would be performing the words of my first play! I’m still pinching myself to be sure it’s real.

About Sanctuary:
Three women must decide whether to hide, fight, or run. Outside the walls of their basement sanctuary, radical men terrorize the neighborhood as a civil war unfolds. The deep divide that has plagued America for the past eight years rips two lifelong friends apart—trapping the third in the middle—as they process the horrifying reality ravaging their streets.

CASSIE, a 50-something leftist political activist, will be played by Laura Shipler Chico. Laura is an inspiring woman who has lived in several conflict zones to work with traumatised people and help them heal. In addition to her humanitarian work, she’s an accomplished actor who has performed at many theatres around London, including the Drayton Arms and Tristan Bates, and she’s also appeared in several independent films.

AMELIA, Cassie’s lifelong best friend (but politically opposite on the far right), will be played by Laura Kay Bailey. Laura has performed Off-Broadway in a Tennessee Williams play where NY Magazine described her performance as “Electrifying.” She is also a voice-over artist who’s currently narrating the second book in a series published by Hachette Group UK.

VAL, Cassie’s relatively new friend who just wants everyone to get along, will be played by Marlisa Doubell. Theatre credits include Emma in “Betrayal” by Harold Pinter (2022), Ensemble cast member in activist Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues,” for VDAY.org (2018-2020) & Barb in “Blueberry Toast” by Mary Laws (2019). Film/TV credits include “Fried Barry” (Amazon), “Blood & Water” (Netflix), and “American Monster” (Amazon). Marlisa is an award-winning independent producer & filmmaker. She also works as a drama teacher and has written several plays & children’s picture books.

The NARRATOR and offstage voices of the DANGEROUS MEN will be voiced by Dominic Weatherill, best known for his portrayal of Greg Lake in the BBC’s black comedy thriller “Boat Story,” as well as several other productions for BBC1, BBC2, ITV, and Channel 4. He also appears in the Disney+ Star Wars series “Andor.”

These fine artists will bring my characters to life in a way I only dared dream was possible. I’ve no doubt this performance will be one of the best days of my life.
