Emerging Playwright

As you know, I‘m done with writing books; however, this past January during the #WrAP challenge, I wrote two full-length plays. I’ve also just finished a one-act play based on my decade-old, unpublished short story “The Clockwork Heart.”

The #WrAP challenge introduced me to London Playwrights, of which now I’m a member, and I’ve already met several wonderful playwrights, actors, and producers here in London. I’ve had both my plays, Sanctuary and Charming Charlie, reviewed by a script consultant at London Playwrights, and the feedback has been both glowing and encouraging.

Here’s what the consultant, Kimberly Andrews, said about Sanctuary:

I found the piece to be very compelling and the format of the three women essentially trapped in one room adds to the tension: they can’t leave without putting themselves in grave danger but the conflict between the women is also brewing…you have a very solid basis from which to develop a very powerful piece of theatre.

…and about Charming Charlie:

“I was on the edge of my seat once again with this one! Very tense, albeit in a different way to Sanctuary…I especially liked the way you showed Charlie manipulating the masses, telling people what they want to hear and firing up hatred in people: the populist speeches felt scarily realistic and it’s something which will profoundly resonate with an audience, since we have seen this with leaders throughout recent history.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if after 15 years of professional writing I finally found my medium?! Oh, let it be so!

I’ll keep you all posted as things unfold. Thanks for sticking with me!
