It’s Past Time to Play Hardball

Introduction

I sent the following letter to my U.S. Senators because silence, politeness, and “wait and see” politics are no longer acceptable responses to what is happening in this country.

We are living through a moment that will be studied—if we are lucky enough to have historians left to study it. The erosion of civil liberties, the normalization of state violence, the open contempt for court rulings, and the aggressive gaslighting of the American public are not abstract fears or future possibilities. They are here, now, and escalating.

Too often, people assume that contacting elected officials is pointless, that letters disappear into the void, or that individual voices don’t matter. That belief is convenient—for those in power. The truth is that sustained, loud, documented pressure is one of the few tools still available to ordinary citizens. Senators track these communications. They count them. They respond to volume and persistence, not vibes.

I’m sharing this letter not because it’s perfect, but because it’s honest, direct, and grounded in the reality we are all witnessing. If you are feeling overwhelmed, furious, scared, or exhausted, you are not alone—and you are not powerless.

My Letter to Representatives

As you well know, we are no longer descending into fascism, we have made it there with armed, masked thugs (who have been granted complete immunity and no longer need warrants to enter people’s homes) attacking, injuring, disappearing, and murdering people! There are literal concentration camps (we need to be using that language with images from inside)!!

As if all that wasn’t bad enough, there are blatant lies coming from the White House, DHS, and pretty much every level of government. This all calls back to Orwell’s 1984… They are telling us not to believe what we see with our own eyes!

This needs to be brought up every. single. time. a Democrat speaks. We need to be playing video of them saying one thing when two weeks later they’re telling us they didn’t say it. Americans are being gaslit on a major level!!

We also need to be reminding the American people at every opportunity… Every single day… That Trump is a convicted felon, has been found liable for rape, and is an alleged pedophile (don’t even get me started on how the Epstein Files haven’t been fully released yet and the ridiculous level of redaction for a few things that have been).

They are ignoring court rulings left and right, and that should be trumpeted from every rooftop by the Democratic leaders. Don’t let the people forget!

Clinton was impeached for less.

Hell, Nixon was impeached for less!!!!

And now people can’t come into this country without revealing five years of social media? Addresses? Phone numbers? Will this also be required for American citizens? What is going on here? Why are the Democrats still playing tiddlywinks? There is far too much at stake!

We need to get rid of this sociopath who is barreling towards not only a full-blown American Civil War but trying his very best to start a world war. IMPEACH HIM! I don’t care if you can’t win… Do it anyway. Every Democrat should be speaking like AOC.

Do not let up on impeaching Kristi Noem. Then continue on with every leader of this corrupt, fascist administration.

It should never have gotten this far.  Don’t delude yourself; the Democrats are complicit in letting it get this far.  Some voting in line with the Republicans to end the shutdown in Nov? Some voting to fund ICE? What’s wrong with your colleagues? They are traitors to this nation and to our constitution.

Stop worrying about reelections and start worrying about our democracy and the safety & rights of American citizens.

Conclusion / Call to Action

If you are reading this and thinking, “Yes, but what can I possibly do?”—this is one thing you can do. Write your representatives. Call them. Say their names. Put your concerns in writing. Be specific. Be relentless. Be on record.

You do not need to be a policy expert. You do not need to soften your language to sound “reasonable” while fundamental rights are being stripped away. History does not reward those who were polite in the face of authoritarianism; it remembers those who refused to normalize it.

If you want to use my letter as a starting point, please do. Copy it. Adapt it. Make it sharper. Make it more personal. Send it to your Senators, your Representative, your Governor, your Attorney General. Encourage friends and family to do the same—even if they think it won’t matter.

Democracy does not survive on hope alone. It survives on pressure, participation, and people who refuse to look away.

Now is not the time to be quiet.
