Set in 1890s London, The Clockwork Heart tells the eerie tale of Doctor Clague, an inventor who resurrects his late wife, Eleanor, through the power of clockwork. For years, Eleanor lives as an emotionless automaton, serving as a governess for the doctor’s daughter, Penny. When Eleanor regains her ability to feel, she falls in love with a suitor, Daniel, only to face heartbreak when he betrays her. Her mechanical heart, built to endure time, can’t withstand the emotional devastation, leading to her tragic end. The play explores the intersections of love, humanity, and the boundaries of life and death.
